Down the Streif in summer
Leave your skis at home and pack your hiking shoes instead. Come and hike on the famous Streif ski run on the Hahnenkamm in Kitzbühel. The actual hike starts at the start booth on top of the Streif. Descent towards the valley with the breathtaking mountain panorama always in sight and walk 3,212m to the Streif's finish. Over the “mousetrap” (Mausefalle), with a slope of 85% the world's steepest downhill ski run, and continue to the Geschöss, the flat and long sliding part of the course. After the Alte Schneise you will get to the Seidlam, perfect for a break with Tyrolean and Austrian delicacies. Afterwards a visit at the Lake Seidlam is definitely worth a visit, it was constructed to function as a water reservoir for the snow canons in the winter.
At the end of the Streif hike you will have to overcome the Lärchenschuss, the Hausberg and the final finish downhill run, where ski racers dash through with a speed of up to 140/km.
If you prefer taking an ascent hike, you can reverse the tour. A special tip for world cup fans: the milestones on this hike are marked with sets of poles, where you will find interesting information about the ski race and the world cup's history.
